Louis Buhler recommended that the following article be posted on our web site because it might help our internationally travelling members:
Bob Willbanks, Editor of ALL SKI CLUB, NEWSLETTER urges all ski clubs to inform its members, who are planning on traveling abroad, to check their Passport.
A determination has to be made in ADVANCE if the passport has at least 90 DAYS left before ARRIVING in the date of arrival in the last country they are planning to visit.
Chances are, if less than 90 days left, the traveler may be turned back to the US.
Not a good way to start a trip
I researched this issue further and found, while Bob Willbanks is right, there is more to it. The passport rules vary from country to country.
Some countries require that the passport expiration date is at least 3 months past your stay. Others require 6 months. Some only require that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay.
Some countries count this time from your arrival in that country and others count it from your departure from that country.
My advice is to check with the local Consulate of the country you are visiting to make sure that your passport is meeting their expiration requirements.
