Minutes of Board Meeting June 30, 2014
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Alicia McVicker, Jane Peet, Ann Lawson, Marie Giusto, Sally Lash, Dot Steeves.

The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. by President Alicia McVicker.

EXCUSED ABSENCES: Jim Peet, Bob Wildman.

SECRETARY: On motion made by Jane, seconded by Sally, the minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.

TREASURER: Sally presented the treasurer’s report for the fiscal year. She will be transferring some funds from the savings to the cash account but remains cautious about such transfers as so much depends on the proceeds of our service auction. The check for $1000.00 to the Far West Scholarship Fund in Louis Buhler’s honor was covered by $500.00 in each fiscal year.

V.P. MEMBERSHIP: In Jim’s absence Jane requested information regarding Louis Buhler’s son John becoming an honorary member of GSC for publication in the Nachrichten. Alicia presented Jane with 10 large bronze and 3 large silver pins which she received from Dina Buhler.

V.P. SOCIAL: Marie reported that she had published a blast for the upcoming summer party, which she also posted on our facebook page. Verena is also doing a blast. Marie will follow up in two weeks. Marie has a list of regular attendees at certain club functions and she will be working on contacting them re the Luau. Hawaiian music was suggested and Jane will speak to Betty Richardson about line dancing. The Luau will be advertised in the next Nachrichten.

There was discussion regThere was discussion regarding our 65th anniversary party. Ann will bring it up at the L.A. Council meeting on July 7th. Marie will attend with Ann and hand out flyers. Alicia suggested that a program be worked up. A memento to take home is being considered. Jane passed around a “Save the Date” invitation she had made up which included all the necessary information. These invitations will be sent out the end of July. Marie was hopeful that some of the Luau proceeds could flow over into the 65th.

Jane suggested that Verena and Fred’s positions be listed in the Nachrichten as well as “Louis Buhler, emeritus. Approved unanimously. Ann attended the voting on the 2015 ski trip and caucuses for other people running for office. Sally brought up the fact that there was no decent seminar on Leadership. Ann agreed and said this would be corrected at the next convention in San Diego as others had complained about it. Norbert will be acting as auctioneer at our service auction on October 15th. A copy of Ann’s report is attached to these Minutes.

INTERNATIONAL: Suzy Kvammen says that JackieJackie Ziegler is planni Suzy Kvammen says that Jackie Ziegler is planning to visit in October. It was suggested that we have a reception for her. This will be planned at a later date.

NACHRICHTEN EDITOR: Nachrichten would be out within the next 2 weeks.

PRESIDENT: Alicia attended a memorial garden planting in honor of Louis Buhler and a tea party at Dina’s. Red and white geraniums were planted at Dina’s request. She spent $81.11. Alicia stressed the fact that we need an agenda ASAP for the 65th. She will get the ball rolling and the board will take it up further at the July meeting.

The next Board Meeting will be held at Sally's on June 30, 2014.

There being no further business before the Board the meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
